School Introduction

St Peter's College is a 600-student co-ed High School based in Palmerston North, in the lower North Island, New Zealand. St Peter's College was founded in 1974 as a result of the amalgamation of St Joseph's High School, St Patrick's Intermediate School and Marist Brothers' High School, and became an integrated school in 1982.

One of the key strengths of academic programme at St Peter's College is that it is able to offer a seamless pathway for teaching and learning from Year 7 through to Year 13. School only enrols up to 30 International Students each year, from a range of countries. This means joining in, speaking English and making Kiwi friends is easy here.

School Curriculum

At St Peter's College, Junior School (Years 7 to 10) has strong literacy and numeracy programmes which aim to improve all students’ abilities in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. It tracks the students’ progress very closely and provides this information to students and parents as part of its educational partnership model. From Years 7 – 9, students are taught in homerooms and follow an integrated curriculum, called Foundation Studies, which offers rich contexts for their education.

Senior School, Years 11 to 13, focuses on connecting students to their chosen career pathway, post secondary school. It assesses against the National Certificate of Educational Achievement, guiding students through subject choices based on their interests, their skills, and their aspirations. Pathway connections include university studies, trades academies and gateway programmes which assist students to future career pathways through gaining work experience. St Peter’s offer Scholarship programmes for Year 13 which challenge and extend those students who wish to achieve at higher levels. There are also opportunities for senior students to undertake University level courses during their final two years at the College.

Staff, parents and friends of the College combine across a wide range of sporting codes to provide all students with the chance to experience the lifestyle benefits of playing a sport.

The education that is provided at St Peter’s College is enhanced and enriched by its commitment to the Arts and Culture, as well as by the extra curricular activities that are planned to suit all interests and abilities. These include: Choir, Rock Bands and other Music Ensembles, Kapa Haka, Pasifika Group, Debating, Dance and Drama.

Situated on 5.8 ha (14.5 acres) in a quiet Palmerston North suburb, facilities at St Peter’s College include a well-equipped Gym and weights room, extensive outdoor areas and Sports field, professional quality music recording studio, specially designed Drama and Art spaces, numerous Computer and Science labs, school Chapel, state of the art Library and learning support areas. Upgrading is continually taking place to ensure St Peter’s College remains a modern and exciting learning environment.
