St Cuthbert's College

School Introduction

On 1 February 1915 the Auckland Presbyterian Ladies College opened its doors, and a name change to St Cuthbert's College followed shortly after.

St Cuthbert's was founded under the benefaction of the Presbyterian Church. Today, while being Presbyterian-based, the School is non-denominational and embrace girls of all faiths.

St. Cuthbert's is a private girls' school from Years 1 to 13. St. The School believes its deeper learning philosophy is the foundation for girls' experiential and problem-based learning. It supports their critical and creative thinking across all areas of the curriculum and encourages them to remain engaged with learning, right throughout their life. Girls will have the foundation they need in Maths and Science, and she will move into the tertiary education without vital gaps in knowledge.

While the philosophy is innovative and successful, the outcomes can only be achieved by passionate and talented teaching experts. And as an independent and Knowledge Rich School, St. Cuthbert's have the freedom and resources to attract some of New Zealand's most highly-regarded specialists in their subjects. The School is also collaborating with the University of Auckland to further deepen the knowledge of its teachers across core curriculum subjects.

To St. Cuthbert's, girls' overall wellbeing is just as important as their wider education. The School adopts small class sizes and individualized learning method, knowing each girl individually, and tailors a personalised, responsive learning plan for everyone. Girls will have the opportunity to participate plenty of sporting, arts, culture and serving groups and clubs to find where their passionate lies, and they'll have robust strategies to deal with whatever comes their way.

As part of its responsibility to prepare girls for their futures, an innovative and robust Global Citizenship framework is engrained across every aspect of school life. The model is based on UNESCO's pillars of learning, and the school sets the girls up to negotiate for a serious of social and global issues. St. Cuthbert's envisage these foundations would help girls facilitate lasting change in the organisations, communities, and societies they are part of.

St Cuthbert's 'gets' girls and the school is geared exclusively for them. From learning sports to pastoral care, girls' needs are at the very centre of everything of daily school life. The School have a dedicated, multidisciplinary team works together with teachers, deans, tutor teachers and family to physical coaching and nursing professionals to respond to the developmental and mental health needs which girls are facing. The School had designed its own educational and boarding system, encouraging girls to work and live together in mixed level groups, to develop camaraderie, independence and a sense of lasting sisterhood.

When the girls finally leave the school gates, equipped to take on whatever in the world, they pursue. Their life tools will be well honed, their values strongly embedded and their bond with friends, will stay with them through life.

School Curriculum

St Cuthbert's offers both NCEA and IB qualifications. All girls complete Level 1 NCEA and then choose either to continue on the NCEA pathway at Level 2 or begin the two year IB Diploma Programme. Both courses give girls the opportunity to gain university entrance in New Zealand and are recognised overseas.
