Scots College

School Introduction

Scots College is a world-class independent Presbyterian day and boarding school with a proud 100-year history. The College’s motto is “Virtutem Paret Doctrina” – let education build all-round character.

Scots College is an International Baccalaureate World School and comprised of three schools in one; Preparatory (boys Yrs 1-6), Middle (boys Yrs 7-10) and Senior (Yrs 11-13). From 2020 Scots College will welcome girls to the Senior School. This decision is made in reflection of providing students with the best start to life and the belief that a co-educational Senior School will best equip these young people for adulthood.

As an IB World School, The School’s core purpose is to develop all-round character. Scots offers a dual qualification pathway with a truly global perspective. With passionate teaching staff who deliver a world class education, students at the School are provided with opportunities in many areas to develop their potential across academia, sport, culture, service and spirituality. Scots College provide an individualised education where every student is known and their educational needs catered for. Small class sizes, dedicated teachers, outstanding facilities and individualised attention helps the School to prepare students for a smooth pathway to tertiary education either in New Zealand or abroad.

At the Prep School, each boy from Years 1 to 6 is assigned to a House. The Middle and Senior School is divided into eight vertically arranged Houses, with students from each year level. Each is a ‘mini school’ of its own, complete with Head (House Dean) and Assistant Teachers, Senior Prefect (Head of House) and Captains (Year 13) of the various xactivities. By providing students with an array of opportunities inside and outside the classroom, the College encourage them to not only explore and recognise the diversity of their talents and abilities but to develop essential leadership skills.

Scots recognises the impact on education in a world where technology continues to disrupt our workforce, fundamentally changing the skills students will need after College. The School focus on equipping students with the skills they need to thrive now and in their futures. Scots continues to making changes to the Senior School to continue to provide students a future focussed educational environment. The knowledge they gain, the values they adopt and the friends they make during their school years will play an important role in shaping their future.
