School Curriculum

Girl’s School (Years 0-8 Girls only)

Junior School (Years 0-3)

Junior years are where the school learning journey begins, with an emphasis on preparing a solid foundation in literacy and numeracy.

Middle School (Years 4 – 6)

At this age, they are beginning to take on extra co-curricular activities and to develop a real confidence in their abilities. The programmes continue to encourage the distinctive learning style of girls, and English, mathematics, social science are all taught by the homeroom teachers in Years 4-6.

Senior School (Years 7-8)

Exposure to a variety of teachers at this age helps ease the transition to secondary schooling and prepares students for different teaching styles. Subjects taught include English, mathematics, social science, science, physical education, music, technology, Christian education and art. French, English and Spanish are offered as semester courses and whole year courses.

Boy’s School (Years 0-8 Boys only)

Junior School (Years 0-3)

Junior School offers a rich and broad curriculum with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy skills. It complements its programme with Christian Education, French, Music and Physical Education, all taught by specialist teachers from a child’s first day at school.

Middle School (Years 4 - 6)

The programmes continue to encourage the distinctive learning style of boys. Many learning opportunities are ‘placed based’.

Senior School (Years 7-8)

In Year 7 and 8, there is a core curriculum all students follow based on the New Zealand National Curriculum, which is enhanced by Christian values that underpin everything we do.

Middle College (Years 7–10)

In recognition that boys and girls learn differently in their early teens and often achieve better outcomes in single-gender classrooms, Saint Kentigern College operates a very successful ‘parallel education model’. In the Middle School (Years 7-10), our boys and girls are taught separately for all core curriculum subjects.

Senior College (Years 11-13)

As an IB World College, at the end of Year 11, the Senior College students decide whether to continue with their NCEA course work or opt for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma pathway for their final two years of study.
