Direct Entry Pathways
· Meet the English language requirements for entry to programmes at the University of Auckland and some other New Zealand tertiary institutions. The pathway courses include: Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (FCertEAP), English Pathway for Postgraduate Studies (EPPS), and English Pathway for Undergraduate Studies (EPUS).

General English will help you improve your ability to communicate in English in social and work situations and progress to other ELA courses. The course focuses on the development of communication skills with a balance of speaking, listening, reading and writing tasks. General English includes elective classes which allow you to tailor your course to meet your learning goals, as you can choose an elective class to focus on a particular subject or skills.
Academic English will help you improve your English language skills to prepare you for study success at university. This course provides you with opportunities to develop your independent learning strategies and individual needs in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Depending on your preference, the course can focus on university preparation or IELTS preparation.
· FCertEAP (Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes): Offering a 20-week direct entry university pathway for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Entry to the FCertEAP is through a conditional offer of place from a New Zealand tertiary institution, in addition to an acceptable score in the ELA Placement Test, or an Academic IELTS result that is one band away from the score required by the university for entry.
· EPUS (English Pathway for Undergraduate Studies): Providing a 10-week direct entry University of Auckland pathway for undergraduate studies. Entry to EPUS is through a conditional offer of place from the University of Auckland, in addition to a previous Academic IELTS result that is half a band away from the score required by the University for entry.
· EPPS (English Pathway for Postgraduate Studies): Offering a 10-week direct entry University of Auckland pathway for postgraduate studies. Entry to EPPS is through a conditional offer of place from the University of Auckland, in addition to a previous Academic IELTS result that is half a band away from the score required by the University for entry.
Groups are usually a minimum of 12 students coming from a university, organisation or Government body. Courses can be catered to the university’s needs and can include integrating students into a General English course or a closed group course or a combination of both.
· IELTS preparation courses: Designed to help people achieve the General Training or Academic IELTS band score they need. The highly qualified and experienced IELTS tutors provide students with knowledge of the exam format, how to approach different question type and practical exam skills and strategies. Designed for people whose English proficiency is sufficient to achieve their desired band score, but who want to improve their IELTS test-taking techniques.
· PTE preparation courses: Designed to help candidates achieve the PTE Academic band score they need. The tutor provides students with knowledge of the exam format, how to approach different question types, and practical exam skills and strategies. The courses are designed for candidates whose English proficiency is sufficient to achieve their desired band score, but who want to improve their PTE Academic test-taking techniques.
These free lessons are taught by teachers who are on a teacher training course. Students will benefit by practicing speaking, improving listening, learning new words, improving reading, and meeting new people.
